The Steel Helmet (1951)

The Steel Helmet (1951) is a written, produced and made during the Korean war, Korean War military man versus man behind enemy lines race relations and American imperialism critiquing buddy movie war noir made by Samuel Fuller, who created it in Californian parks on the cheap while infuriating military authorities and Uncle Sam by using military footage gained from them in order to express that war is a scam and a tragedy and that not all death was glorious, while racism and Imperialism were both real.

Good old friend of Jean Luc Godard Samuel Fuller made this film in ten days with twenty-five extras who were UCLA students and he used a plywood tank, he shot in a studio using mist, and he shot exteriors in Griffith Park, a large municipal park at the eastern end of the Santa Monica Mountains, in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles, California.

Stray Dog (1949)

Stray Dog (1949) is an Akira Kurosawa buddy-cop Japanese film noir undercover heatwave detective police procedural homicide back-street illicit arms market absolute classic of Japanese noir, that stars  Toshiro Mifune and Takashi Shimura.

It was Kurosawa's second film of 1949 produced by the Film Art Association and released by Shintoho and while considered a noir, it should also be fully considered as a fully formed detective movie and indeed you should know it as being among the earliest films in that genre.

Within The Blackboard Jungle (1955) are both significant lies and truths, as well as discussion of racism underpinned by the thin air of misogyny, and an uncomfortable sexism which is constant enough to form an almost separate movie. Unlike in noir in toto, and this is not noir, there are no interesting roles for women in this man's, man's, man's, man's movie.

Undercover Girl (1950)

Undercover Girl (1950) is a female undercover cop film noir in which all of femininity suffers the indignities of the history of the world up to 1950, and since 1950 too in some workplaces.

Definitely the target of workplace bullying as well as workplace sexual harassment from  smug mug himself Scott Brady, undercover girl Alexis Smith is also a good cop in an embarrassingly male world, only a few years out of wartime and no years into the 1950s, it is going to be a place where a woman is going to be muscled into the film noir environment of the home, this is going to happen.

She's on the range but they want her in apron, and it takes a touch cookie like Alexis Smith to break this patriarchy right open.
